Best AI Visibility Tools for Small Businesses

Table of Contents

Your next customer just asked ChatGPT who to hire.

It gave three names.

Not ten links. Not page two. Three.

You weren’t one of them, and nobody told you.

That’s the part that stings. Lose a Google ranking and Search Console shows it within a couple of days. Lose an AI answer and there’s no alert, no report, no dip to point at. Just a customer who never showed up.

The best AI visibility tools for small businesses end that silence. They ask AI your customers’ questions on a schedule and show you who got named instead of you.
The right one costs less than lunch for two.

If you know which price is real.

Prices are monthly with annual billing, checked on vendor pricing pages in 2026.

The $29 plan that costs $67

Otterly Lite is $29 a month.

It’s a good plan, with daily checks and unlimited seats.

But it doesn’t track Gemini. Or Claude.

Add Gemini: $9. Add Claude: $29.

Now it’s $67.

Nobody lied to you. The price on the page was real. It just wasn’t your price.

This whole category bills that way, with four meters running quietly in the background:

  • Per assistant. Claude and Grok are the usual extras. Writesonic and Peec AI keep them for Enterprise.
  • Per website. Semrush charges $99 a domain. Two sites, $198.
  • Per shop. BrightLocal bills each location. Three shops, three plans.
  • Per check. Ahrefs counts every answer. Ten questions on six assistants, daily, is about 1,800 checks a month.

So before any free trial, write three things on a sticky note: your questions, the assistants your customers use, and how many sites or shops you run.

Price that. Not the headline.

The “cost per prompt” column is the one other lists leave out. It shows what each tracked question really costs, so you can compare a 15-question plan with a 200-question plan fairly.

Lowest cost per question isn’t automatically best. A question checked daily on six assistants tells you far more than one checked weekly on two.

The 12 best AI visibility tools for SMBs

Searcherries

You don’t need a dashboard that does everything. You need one that answers two questions honestly: does AI name us, and does that bring anyone in? Searcherries answers both, starting at $10 a month.

You pick from six assistants, Grok included, which no other self-serve plan on this list covers, and each question is checked daily on three of them. Then it puts those answers next to your Search Console, Bing and GA4 numbers. A new mention and the visits it brought sit on the same screen, so you’re not left guessing which caused which.

Features

  • Choose from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude and Grok; each question is tracked on 3 of them
  • Daily updates
  • Questions tracked by country and language
  • AI visibility score, share of voice, competitor co-mentions and cited URLs
  • Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and GA4 on every plan
  • GEO MCP server for Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and VS Code. Ask “What should I work on next?” and get prioritized tasks, each with evidence

Who it’s for: Owners and solo marketers who want the full picture on a small budget. It’s not for you if you need an article writer or white-label client reports, because it has neither.

Pricing

  • Starter: $10/month billed annually ($120/year), 10 questions, 1 project
  • Pro: $47/month billed annually ($564/year), 50 questions, 10 projects
  • Annual billing saves up to 23%
  • 14-day free trial

Otterly

Some people want a monthly report. Others want to know, every morning, whether ChatGPT still says their name. Otterly is for the second group.

It asks fifteen questions again every day, and each answer shows the pages the AI leaned on. When a competitor appears overnight, you can see exactly what changed. It’s a habit tool, and a good one, right up until you need Gemini. That’s when the price starts to move.

Features

  • 15 prompts checked daily on Lite
  • ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot included
  • Gemini, AI Mode and Claude as paid add-ons
  • Citation analysis
  • Unlimited team members
  • API and MCP access on Standard

Who it’s for: Owners who want a short daily check on four assistants. If your customers lean on Gemini or Claude, price the add-ons before you start.

Pricing

  • Lite: $25/month billed annually ($29 monthly)
  • Add-ons: Gemini $9, AI Mode $9, Claude $29 a month
  • Standard: $189/month

BrightLocal

If customers walk through your door, AI’s answer about you is built mostly from your Google Business Profile, your reviews and the directories you’re listed in. For a shop, AI visibility is local SEO with a new audience.

BrightLocal already runs that groundwork. When ChatGPT leaves you out of “best dentist near me,” the fix might be a missing listing, a thin profile or a review gap, and it sits one tab away from the alert. That’s the real value here. Not the tracker itself, but how close the problem is to the fix.

Features

  • Local AI Visibility Tracker for ChatGPT and Google’s AI
  • Local rank tracking and geo-grid maps
  • Citation building
  • Google Business Profile audits
  • Review management

Who it’s for: Single-location businesses in the US, UK, Canada or Australia. Skip it if you sell only online or operate elsewhere.

Pricing

  • Track: $31/month per location billed annually ($41 monthly)
  • Each extra location is another plan
  • 14-day free trial

Frase

Knowing a competitor gets named for “how much does artificial turf cost” doesn’t fix anything. Someone still has to write the page that earns you that spot.

Frase keeps the finding and the fixing in one place. You spot the gap in the tracker, open the writer and publish. If you’ll never write, though, skip it. Most of what you pay for here is the writer.

Features

  • AI visibility tracking
  • AI article writer
  • Page audits
  • MCP server on every plan

Who it’s for: Small teams that publish regularly and want tracking and writing under one subscription.

Pricing

  • Starter: $39/month billed annually ($49 monthly). 50 visibility prompts a month on ChatGPT and Google AI
  • Professional: $103/month billed annually ($129 monthly), adds Perplexity
  • Scale: $239/month billed annually ($299 monthly), adds Claude and Gemini
  • 7-day free trial

Writesonic

Add up what you already pay: an AI writer, a site audit tool, and now a tracker. Writesonic folds all three into one bill.

That’s the pitch, and for the writer and the audits it holds up. The tracking is thinner than the price suggests. The $79 Starter plan watches ChatGPT only. Gemini and Google AI Overviews arrive at $199, and the rest of the assistants sit behind Enterprise. Buy it for the bundle, not for the tracker alone.

Features

  • AI tracking on ChatGPT (Starter), plus Gemini and Google AI Overviews (Basic and up)
  • Prompts checked daily
  • AI article writer
  • Site audits
  • All major AI platforms on Enterprise

Who it’s for: Small teams ready to replace a writer, an auditor and a tracker with one subscription.

Pricing

  • Starter: $79/month billed annually ($99 monthly), 50 prompts, ChatGPT only
  • Basic: $199/month billed annually, 100 prompts, adds Gemini and AI Overviews
  • Growth: $399/month billed annually, 200 prompts
  • Enterprise: custom

Nightwatch

Someone already gets a rankings report from you every month, maybe a boss, maybe a client. This month they asked, “What about ChatGPT?”

Nightwatch lets you answer in the same report, without a second tool or a second login. It’s also one of the few at this price that tracks Claude without an add-on fee. The honest downside: if you don’t need keyword rankings, you’re paying mostly for them.

Features

  • 500 tracked keywords
  • 50 AI prompts and 1,500 AI answers a month
  • ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews
  • MCP included

Who it’s for: Anyone who already reports Google rankings and now needs AI answers in the same place. Grok isn’t covered.

Pricing

  • Starter: €79/month billed annually
  • Professional: €159/month
  • 14-day free trial

Surfer

If your writers already live in Surfer, you don’t need convincing. You need to pick the right plan, because two of them say “AI tracking” and mean very different things.

The $82 AI Search Analytics plan checks 50 prompts every day on five assistants. The $99 Standard content plan checks 25 prompts once a week, on ChatGPT only. It’s the same brand with similar words on the pricing page, but you get a fraction of the data. If you’re new to Surfer, start somewhere cheaper.

Features

  • 50 prompts checked daily on AI Search Analytics
  • ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini
  • MCP included
  • Content editor on content plans

Who it’s for: Teams already writing in Surfer. Claude and Grok aren’t covered on any plan.

Pricing

  • AI Search Analytics: $82/month billed annually
  • Standard content plan: $99/month, with 25 prompts weekly on ChatGPT only

Peec AI

Some tools hand you data. Peec AI hands you something you can forward to a client without fixing it first.

That matters if you report to someone. It matters a lot less if the only person reading the dashboard is you. For one brand and a dozen questions, you’d pay several times what the entry tools above cost, mostly for polish.

Features

  • Shareable dashboards and automated reporting
  • Source analytics and gap analysis
  • Unlimited users on every plan
  • Pick 3 assistants from ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot and Gemini, with more as paid add-ons
  • Daily tracking

Who it’s for: Agencies and in-house marketers who report results upward. Claude and Grok are Enterprise-only.

Pricing

  • Starter: 50 prompts, 3 assistants, 1 project. Peec shows prices by region rather than one public figure; third-party reports put it around €70–€95/month
  • 15% off with annual billing
  • Free trial

SE Visible

A plumber needs ten questions. A store with 300 products needs hundreds, and at $1.50 a question, that gets expensive fast.

SE Visible is built for the store. It costs roughly 40 cents a question on annual billing, the lowest on this list by a long way. But volume only saves money if you use it. Track 20 questions here and you’ve paid for 180 you’ll never look at.

Features

  • 200 prompts on Basic, 450 on Core
  • ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and AI Overviews
  • Claude announced, not yet live; no Grok
  • Built on SE Ranking’s SEO platform

Who it’s for: Online stores and SaaS businesses with long lists of product and comparison questions.

Pricing

  • Basic: $99/month (about $79 billed annually), 200 prompts
  • Core: $189/month, 450 prompts
  • 10-day free trial

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

If Semrush is open in a tab all day, another login is the last thing you want.

The AI Visibility Toolkit sits right next to the keyword data you already check, with no new dashboard and no copying numbers between tools. Just watch the words “per domain.” A second website means a second $99.

Features

  • AI visibility scores and source analysis
  • Prompt Research
  • 25 prompts tracked daily
  • ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity

Who it’s for: Semrush customers with one website. Claude and Grok aren’t covered.

Pricing

  • $99/month per domain, billed annually
  • 7-day free trial

Ahrefs Brand Radar

Every other tool here assumes you already know which questions to track. Most owners don’t. They guess.

Brand Radar replaces the guess. Its index of more than 475 million prompts shows what people actually ask AI about your market. As a daily tracker, though, the checks run out fast. Use it to pick your questions, then track them somewhere cheaper.

Features

  • Index of 475M+ AI prompts
  • Custom prompt tracking, metered in checks
  • Sold standalone or bundled into Ahrefs plans
  • Pay-as-you-go overage instead of forced upgrades

Who it’s for: Ahrefs customers deciding what to write about and which questions matter.

Pricing

  • Inside an Ahrefs plan: Lite ($129/month) includes 5 tracked prompts and 150 checks
  • Standalone Brand Radar AI: from $199/month; the product page lists $398 for select platforms and $699 for all platforms
  • Extra custom-prompt packages: $50, $100 or $250 a month
  • 10 questions on six assistants, daily, uses about 1,800 checks a month

Profound

Profound is on this list as the ceiling. But it now has a door small teams can walk through: a published $99 Starter plan.

Read the card before you get excited. Starter watches ChatGPT alone, with 50 prompts and one seat, billed yearly. Three assistants means Growth at $399. What Profound is known for, up to nine assistants, SSO and dedicated support, still lives on Enterprise.

Features

  • Starter: ChatGPT only, 50 prompts, 1 seat
  • Growth: ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, 100 prompts, 3 seats
  • Profound Agents for content work (100 credits on Starter, 400 on Growth)
  • Enterprise: up to 9 assistants, SSO/SAML, dedicated Slack support

Who it’s for: Funded teams that want Profound’s analytics, or brands that only care about ChatGPT. For broad coverage on a small budget, the tools above do more for less.

Pricing

  • Starter: $99/month, billed yearly
  • Growth: $399/month, billed yearly (free trial offered; length not published)
  • Enterprise: custom

Still deciding? Answer one question at a time

Stop at your first yes.

  1. Already paying for Semrush or Ahrefs? Use their add-on. You don’t need another login.
  2. Do customers walk through your door? BrightLocal.
  3. More than 100 questions to track? SE Visible.
  4. Publishing every week? Frase, or Surfer if your team already uses it.
  5. Already sending a rankings report? Nightwatch.
  6. None of these? Searcherries for the widest choice of assistants on the least money. Otterly if a daily check is what you’ll actually look at.

What you’re actually paying to see

Every tool on this list does the same core job. It sends your customers’ questions to AI assistants on a schedule and records what comes back. Marketers call the practice of improving those answers generative engine optimization (GEO) or answer engine optimization (AEO). These tools are how you measure it.

Here’s what the dashboard numbers mean in plain terms:

  • Mention rate (or AI visibility score): out of every question you track, how often you’re named.
  • Share of voice: how often you’re named compared with your competitors on the same questions.
  • Prominence: where you land in the answer. Named first beats named fifth.
  • Sentiment: whether the AI recommends you warmly, neutrally or with a warning.
  • Citations: the web pages the AI points to as its sources. This is the most useful number on the screen. If a review site, a directory or a Reddit thread keeps getting cited, that’s where your next effort goes.
  • Competitor co-mentions: who gets named next to you, or instead of you.
  • AI referral traffic: visitors arriving from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and similar sites, measured in Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

Which AI assistants matter? In 2026 that means OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Anthropic’s Claude, Microsoft Copilot and xAI’s Grok. Google’s two surfaces reach the most searchers, and ChatGPT fields the most direct questions. Track those four at minimum. Add Claude if you sell to developers or technical buyers, and Grok if your audience lives on X.

What to do after you sign up

Here’s what usually happens.

You sign up. You add 20 questions. You check the dashboard twice. The trial ends, and nothing has changed.
The tool didn’t fail. Nobody acted on it.

So keep it small.

Start with ten questions, written in your customers’ words, not your keywords. “Accountant for freelancers in Austin,” not “accounting services.” Pull them from sales calls and support emails, the places customers already told you what they want.

Give it two weeks before you touch anything. Without a baseline, you’ll never know what worked.

Then open the citations, because this is where the money is. For every question you’re missing from, look at the pages the AI trusted. It might be a review site you’re not on, a directory with your old phone number, or a competitor’s comparison page that leaves you out.

Fix three. Not twelve. Three.

Connect Search Console and GA4 if your tool allows it, and check again in a month.

If the mentions moved and the visits followed, then buy more questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest AI visibility tool for a small business?

Searcherries Starter is the cheapest paid plan on this list at $10 a month billed annually ($13 monthly). It tracks 10 questions daily, each on three AI assistants you choose from six.

How many questions should a small business track?

Between 5 and 20. Choose the questions customers ask right before they pick a provider, like “best [service] in [city]” or “[your product] vs [competitor].”

Which AI assistants should I track first?

ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini. Add Claude for technical or developer audiences and Grok if your customers are active on X.

Can these tools show whether AI brings me customers?

Only if they connect to your analytics. Tools that integrate GA4 show visits from AI assistants; Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools show the search clicks beside them. Searcherries includes all three on every plan.

Is AI visibility the same as SEO?

No, but they’re closely linked. SEO earns rankings in search results. AI visibility earns mentions and citations inside AI answers. Pages that rank well and are cited across the web tend to show up in AI answers more often, so the work overlaps.

Can I check my AI visibility for free?

You can ask ChatGPT and Gemini your questions by hand, but answers change by session, location and day, so one check proves little. Free trials from Searcherries, Otterly, BrightLocal, Frase, Nightwatch, Peec AI, Semrush and Profound let you see automated tracking before you pay.

How we tested and ranked

We checked each vendor’s public pricing page in October 2026 and recorded the entry plan’s price, prompt limit, tracking frequency, AI platforms covered, integrations and MCP availability. Tools were ranked on value for a business tracking 5 to 20 questions, not on total features. Cost per prompt is entry price divided by included prompts, using annual billing where offered.

Prices and plan limits change often. Confirm on the vendor’s pricing page before buying.
